How to prepare a logo for signage and vehicle wraps
Prepare raster logos for storefront signs, banners, window vinyl, vehicle lettering, and wraps with scalable paths, correct colors, and production-safe exports.

Decide whether the element should be vector
Not every part of a sign or wrap needs vectorization. Use the format that matches the content.

Reconstruct geometry, not pixels
Large output magnifies small errors. A wavy line copied from compression noise can become obvious across a storefront. Check circles, repeated corner radii, baselines, and symmetry. For a known wordmark, compare lettering against an approved brand reference instead of trusting a tiny website thumbnail.
Inspect the converted vector at 400% and 800%, but also step back to the expected viewing distance. Remove path noise that has no visible design purpose.
Know the production process
Cut vinyl follows vector outlines. Printed vinyl uses rasterized color output, but vector logos remain useful for scaling and contour cutting. Fabricated channel letters may require separate face, return, and mounting geometry beyond the visible logo.
Ask the shop:
- Will the artwork be cut, printed, routed, painted, or fabricated?
- Which file formats and color mode should be supplied?
- Are bleed and contour-cut paths required?
- Should strokes be expanded into shapes?
- What minimum line width suits the material and process?

Preserve scale without creating an enormous canvas
Vector artwork can be supplied at a documented scale such as 1:10 when the production application cannot comfortably handle the full dimensions. Label that scale clearly and include one known measurement.
Do not assume pixels represent physical units consistently across software. A valid SVG viewBox helps scaling, but the final import still needs a dimension check in the sign shop's application.
Manage colors with physical references
Screen previews cannot guarantee the appearance of printed ink, translucent sign faces, metallic vinyl, or reflective films. Use approved brand values as a starting point and request material or print proofs for critical colors.
Include:
- Brand color values and named spot colors when available
- The intended substrate or vinyl series
- Day and night appearance requirements for illuminated signs
- A visual reference for the complete layout
Package the delivery
Send the editable vector, the shop's requested production export, linked or embedded raster assets, fonts or outlined text, and a PDF proof. Keep cut contours and technical layers clearly named. If EPS is requested, use the SVG to EPS exporter and reopen the result before delivery.
